To learn more about when adolescent treatment should begin and what it entails we encourage you to keep reading!

When Should Phase II Treatment or Adolescent Treatment Begin?

Phase II treatment implies that there was a phase I or an early phase of orthodontic treatment. If no phase I treatment was rendered, then your child’s treatment is considered adolescent treatment. Most patients undergoing phase two or adolescent treatment begin the process between the ages of eleven and fifteen. This is due to the fact that by the age of twelve most, if not all, of a child’s teeth have erupted. By this time, the teeth could have erupted crooked with gaps and bad bites that the doctor can easily detect. It is rare that these problems ever correct themselves which is why it is important for a parent to bring their child into Dr. Brown for orthodontic treatment.

Another reason why orthodontic treatment is more common at the time of adolescence is the social factor! Chances are your children have many friends who are undergoing orthodontic treatment as well. You may even see some of their faces in one of our offices. Having braces or Invisalign/Invisalign Teen is a lot easier when a child is going through it along with their peers. Once the treatment is over your child will have even more confidence with a smile that they can be proud of!

The Orthodontic Treatment Process

You may be wondering what you can expect when you walk into our office for phase two or adolescent treatment. The answer is that it depends on the type of treatment your child needs! When your child comes in for their first appointment with us they will be evaluated by Dr. Brown in order to determine which type of treatment they require. Once Dr. Brown determines your child’s treatment needs, she will provide you with a treatment plan and an estimated treatment time for your case.
